Obituary

David H. Maldonado, 84, was embraced by Our Lord on October 23, 2015. He was born in Del Rio, Texas on February 15, 1931 to the late Santana Maldonado and Maria Hernandez Maldonado. He served in the U.S. Army stationed at a medical facility in Korea during the Korean War. David worked at the San Felipe Del Rio Consolidated Independent School District warehouse and retired after 30 years. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Angelica Dominguez Maldonado and his ten loving children and their families: Mary Grace (Andy) Hardy, John David (Mari), Steven (Patti), Raymond, Martha Nicholas (Baltazar Luby), Richard, Debbie (Joey) Guerra, Chris, Rene (Anna) and Edward. Grandpa also left nine grandchildren who were his pride and joy: Johnathan Nicholas, Stefanie and StevenAlfonso Maldonado, JohnDavid and Leiani Maldonado, Blake and Bella Maldonado, Kristina and Kayla Guerra. David's gift from God was his kindness and willingness to always give and serve others. He was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church where he served many years as an usher. He was also a member of the St. Joseph's Men's Club and served as president several years along with other officer positions. He was also a member of the UCO Men's Club. David was well known as one of the main cooks at the annual St. Joseph's Father's Day BBQ Chicken Fundraiser for many years. Dad's BBQ chicken was a family favorite. David was a man of God who lived his faith. He was a hard worker who many times held down three jobs to provide for his large family. David will always be remembered for his beautiful smile and his love of family. He instilled into his children the importance of an education, a strong work ethic and the quality to be a person of integrity. He stressed to his children "always do the best you can do" and "always do the right thing." Pall Bearer honors will lovingly and proudly be bestowed upon his seven sons. Honorary Pall Bearers will be sons-in-law: Andy Hardy, Joey Guerra and Baltazar Luby; Additional Honorary Pall Bearers will be family and life-long friends: Bernardo Dominguez, Alfredo Barajas, Juan Gomez, Sr., Jerry Hidalgo and Arturo Sanchez, Sr. His Celebration of Life will begin with visitation at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 3rd, from 5-9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, November 4th, at 3 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with interment at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery. The United States Army and the American Legion Post 595 will render Military honors. Services under the care of Sunset Memorial Oaks-Del Rio, Texas.
